Putting the Pieces Together

I've been trying to piece together all of the rumors and speculation surrounding upcoming Grey's plots.

Here are the pieces I'm working with, and I don't remember where I got some of this info, so correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Izzie's Denny visions are brain-related, similar to an aneurysm.

2. Derek is involved in the cross-over episodes and goes to LA to visit Addison and possibly her brother.

3. Her brother is a neurosurgeon, and he's also involved in the cross-overs.

I wonder if Derek is going to figure out that Izzie has this condition sometime soon but, given his recent insecurities about all the death involved, decide that he does not want to be the one to operate on Izzie. It's too much pressure and too emotionally complicated for him to handle professionally. Maybe he'll go down to visit Addison's brother to share the details about Izzie's case and lure him up to Seattle to treat her. I don't watch Private Practice, so I don't know anything about this character, but this is the only explanation I can think of for Derek to go to LA and the brother to come to Seattle.

Maybe something good will come of this Denny craziness after all -- more Derek time!!!

Does this make sense?

I'm watching PP but I don't even remember what kind of doctor Addison's brother was :) so I don't know if he is going to help Derek on Izzie's case or if he might be the one needing medical treatment from Derek. Anyway I too do hope that Izzie's messed up brain will give us more Derek screentime after all.

I'm thinking that the crossover somehow involves Addison's brother too. Her brother was a neurologist (I'm 99% sure), but then stopped practicing to write books about his experiences as a doctor. Maybe he gets sick, so Addison calls Derek to help, which I get because Derek is the best after all. ;)

I think Izzie does have an aneurysm too, in which case Derek would be the logical choice to fix it, but like you said, it might be too personal. He may not want to be held responsible if something went wrong.

But honestly, I have no idea where any of this is going. We're still pretty much in the dark with all of these storylines...

Hmmmmmm. Your speculation makes sense to me, but there's one thing that doesn't add up. If I remember correctly, Sandra Oh said that Derek was going to LA because of Addison. If that is true, it seems to me that Izzie might not have anything to do with why he goes, and that there are two options. Either he goes to help her with a case (a baby with a problem that requires a neurosurgeon), or he goes because there is something wrong with Addison. Or perhaps something wrong with her brother? Just thinking out loud.

In any case, I'm thinking that Derek taking a trip to LA, whatever the reason, will have a major impact on his relationship with Meredith. Could this be a way for them to move past the Addison issue? If I were Meredith, and my boyfriend was taking a trip to see his ex-wife - the wife that he hid from me and then dumped me for - I'd be pretty freaked out. Just saying. If Meredith does in fact freak out, she'll probably pretend she's O.K., but eventually she'll have to talk to him about it, and he'll have to reassure her. Or maybe I'm asking for too much.

I hadn't really thought much about how the Derek visit will affect Meredith. I really hope that doesn't create drama between them. If there's anyone that Meredith should NOT feel threatened by at this point, it's Addison.

But maybe a little insecurity is good if it forces them to talk?

Why is it I find myself constantly wishing bad things on Mer/Der lately in the hopes that it's a catalyst for something bigger?! Not a good sign...

You could be right that there's something wrong with Addison's brother. That could fit with him coming up to Seattle as well. I have a hard time believing Sandra Oh's comment that Derek's going just for Addison, though. Part of me wonders if she just assumed that, but didn't really know the details of that script since she's not a part of it. *shrugs*

This is really perplexing. Dammit, Shonda! Now I'm going to have to start watching PP, and I don't need another show!!!

I just don't want the crossover to happen. Maybe if we had, had some actual MerDer development then I'd be fine with it. But can't they at least work on Grey's Anatomy. I tried to get into PP, just couldn't. Plus I don't have enough time to devote to another show as it is. I just wish they'd keep Grey's seperate. UH

I can't say that I disagree with you on that one. I feel like Shonda wastes a lot of time these days compensating for mistakes she wishes she hadn't made in previous seasons:

-- resurrecting Denny because she wishes she hadn't killed him off
-- creating an unnecessary spin-off that is only going to survive if it piggybacks as much as possible off Grey's

I gave Private Practice a try for a while, too, but I just found that Addison's character was SO different in LA, I didn't enjoy it very much. I gave up after a few episodes. The new time slot might work for me, though. I may have it on in the background as I gab about Grey's. :)
